In a move aimed at further strengthening public transportation and empowering women through free bus travel, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Karur Division) inaugurated eight new bus routes at the Karur City Bus Stand today.
This initiative is part of the widely appreciated ‘Vidiyal Payanam’ scheme, which offers free bus travel for women, a flagship welfare measure introduced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thalapathy M.K. Stalin. The launch was carried out with the blessings and guidance of the Chief Minister, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive and accessible public services.
The inauguration event was graced by Mr. M. Thangavel, I.A.S., District Collector of Karur, along with Hon’ble Members of the Legislative Assembly, representatives of local bodies, and a large number of local residents.
The newly introduced routes are expected to enhance connectivity across the region, benefiting daily commuters—especially women—and easing travel to and from various parts of the city and surrounding areas.
Local officials emphasized that the expanded services align with the government’s goal to create a more equitable and accessible transportation system for all citizens.
